Do you know what today is?

Please read! This is important to me!

Today is the National Start! Walking Day! It was created to help fight heart disease, the number one killer in the country (Stroke being the #3 killer), and all proceeds benefit the American Heart Association. It is sponsored by Subway, Healthy Choice, and AstraZeneca.

Start! is hosting heart walks all across the country. Click here to search and find one in your city and state. I know a lot of bloggers out there are runners.. I think you could probably run, but wouldn't it be nice to slow down for a bit to help support a good cause!

There is no entry fee to participate in the Start! Heart Walk, but there are individuals and teams that accept donations to give to the American Heart Association. The main goal is to get people out walking 30 minutes a day to increase the longevity of your life!

They even have a tracker program you can use to keep track of your walking progress. :)

My father passed away on December 31, 2008 from heart disease. On October 31, 2009, my Mom, Brother, Sister-in-law, Husband, and myself will be walking in honor of my dad. If any of you have family members that have died from heart disease, or are currently battling it, I encourage you to walk as well. I have also noticed that a lot of you have the Praying for Stellan button on your blogs and are following along with MckMama's blog. If you feel inclined to do so and don't have a particular person you would like to get out and walk for, you could walk for baby Stellan and support his current battle with SVT.

I enjoy walking a lot! In fact, sometimes I drive my husband crazy because I always want to go walk so much. I am going to start tracking my progress as I look forward to the walk in my hometown. I encourage you all to walk.. it's free! Why not enjoy a nice morning/afternoon walking through your city streets! :)
